DRS 1320 DCS

METIS DRS 1320 DCS

The professional scanner for the cultural heritage and fine art markets

The DRS 1320 DC is a professional scanner purpose-built to provide a non-invasive, high-quality digital reproduction of a wide range of originals such as books, parchments, scrolls, atlases, maps, drawings, gravures, sigils, and more.

With its up to 91 x 130 cm (35.83 x 51.2 in) scanning format, the DRS 1320 DC can handle originals of various sizes with ease while still providing exceptional image resolution and accuracy. This makes it ideal for museums, libraries, archives, and other institutions looking to preserve and digitise their valuable cultural assets.

Key Features of the METIS DRS 1320 DCS:

  • Automated electronic book cradle

    Comes with an automated electronic book cradle with a removable glass, capable of handling up to A0 format books and over 50 cm (19.7 in) of thickness (the largest book cradle available on the market). The automatic book cradle accepts books as well as drawings, maps and even originals with three-dimensional reliefs.

  • Cutting-edge digital camera with 16k imaging sensor

    Features a vertically motorised digital camera with 16K imaging sensor that allows the extension of native optical resolution from 450 to 900 PPI (software adjustable from 100 to 1800 PPI).

  • Optimised outputs thanks to the DC Synchrolight lighting system

    Comes with the new and improved DC Synchrolight lighting system updated to the latest LED technology with enhanced lighting power and colour rendering. The DC Synchrolight (Dynamically Controlled Synchronized Light) is a patent-protected METIS technology.

    METIS DC Synchrolight gives the ability to control and change dynamically, instantly and automatically the angle and intensity of the light emitted by the various light sources in the scanning area. This makes it possible to optimise the result of the digitisation, depending on the type and nature of the originals. The lighting system can be further optimised in combination with the new lighting grids, an accessory that provides further illumination directions and simplifies the acquisition workflow when dealing with specific digitisation tasks (e.g. when scanning long wood planks).

  • Streamline your scanning workflow with the SuperScan mode & Light Inspector

    The METIS SuperScan mode and “MDC” file format make it possible for all the natural light schematics to be recorded and accessed within a single file. Moreover, the Light Inspector software gives you the ability to acquire different visual appearances at any time without the need to rescan the original or adjust the lighting. Therefore, METIS technology can quickly find the best natural light schematic out of thousands of options in real-time, delivering results that no other system on the market can match.

    With the ability to evaluate light changes in real-time, it allows for a rapid and efficient reproduction of even the most challenging originals. This substantially streamlines and accelerates your scanning workflow.

    Additionally, with the METIS Photometric Stereo 3D, you can quickly calculate and extrapolate 3D data from the 2D colour data obtained from the MDC SuperScan file in just seconds

  • Excellent results thanks to the METIS software suite

    Includes the METIS software suite specially designed for different decor and fine art applications. These are the Scan Director, Light Inspector, and Color Profiler, among others. All METIS software tools are user-friendly and seamlessly integrated with each other in order to guarantee a smooth workflow and excellent results for any task.

  • Perform sophisticated functions thanks to SuperScan

    It integrates all cutting-edge METIS technologies, including the ability to SuperScan. This is an advanced but entirely automated acquisition mode only available in METIS scanners that allows you to:

    • modify the visual appearance after scanning without the need for rescanning. For instance, this greatly aids the operator in finding the best visual appearance or in finding/studying details of the scanned original previously invisible to the naked eye;
    • generate a dense and accurate 3D Depth Map through the “METIS Photometric Stereo 3D” technology. METIS has been at the forefront of pioneering and perfecting this technique since 2013. They have also enhanced their software with 3D tools to optimise the data for various purposes, such as engraving, visual evaluation, painting reproductions, etc.);
    • generate a special Glossiness Map for printing/engraving/visualisation purposes. For example, to extrapolate a mapping of golds or other metallic details on illuminated codes for reproduction purposes.

  • Very easy to operate and highly automated

    The scanner is incredibly user-friendly and highly automated. Light schematics can be changed without having to manually adjust the exposure, contrast, or grey balance. It also continuously monitors temperature in order to ensure consistent and repeatable results over time. The scanner itself serves as the expert and handles all the technical details.

  • Special cultural heritage tools

    Unsharp masking, despeckle, colour correction, light reflection tool, crop and multi-crop, and automatic file naming, are some of the important features that the scanner’s software easily handles for cultural heritage needs.

  • High scanning speed and operativity with perfect colour accuracy

    The DRS 1320 DCS, just like all other DRS-DCS systems, boasts a high scanning speed, seamless operation, and impeccable colour accuracy. Moreover, it can effortlessly handle very large files, has a significantly large depth of field that users can adjust as needed, and is engineered for long-term durability.

  • Ultra-high geometrical accuracy

    METIS systems feature exceptional geometrical accuracy, making them suitable for even the most demanding professional drawing and cartography applications.

  • Easy to learn how to use

    Straightforward to learn. The software is easy to use and features a user-friendly interface that empowers even the most novice users to quickly master professional scanning techniques.
